The Inspire Other’s Team met on Wednesday 28th February 2024 and discussed some solutions for managing tiredness and achieving relaxation. Read on for helpful tips.
Here we share a special moment in which one of our Inspire Others story contributors – Chris – watches the video story another of our Inspire Others contributors – Craig. We captured two particular moments of connection for Chris – tea and tracheostomies. Dr Richard Coates, who came up with idea for Inspire Others, described the moment of watching the reaction as feeling as if the project had come full circle.
In August this year, Chris (see his story here) took part in the Super Hero Series Triathlon event at Dorney Lake near Windsor, UK. Superhero Series was born out of a lack of sporting events for the ‘everyday Super Hero’. It was founded by Paralympian Sophia Warner in 2016. They aim to hold bold, fun […]
We’ve taken a break over the summer to re-charge, but we will be back with lots of new content over the coming months. We did have 2 great events in May and June 2023. In May 2023, we celebrated our 1st anniversary by meeting in person. We launched our website in December 2021, but in […]
With the weather warming up and summer only around the corner, we were thinking about holidays (we know that you have been, too!) We all know that holidays or time away, whether abroad or a stay-cation can be relaxing, enjoyable, and a much-needed break from home life for many. However, from an Acceptance and Commitment […]
Why I run I run mainly for fitness and I’m trying to improve my technique. Before my brain injury I ran through the streets and the woods. I used to run on a treadmill for ages, maybe up to an hour with my headphones on. I used to run to the gym, work out, save […]
A conversation between Dr Richard Coates (Neuropsychologist) and Jude Berraondo (Neuro Speech and Language Therapist) about the inspiration behind the co-design project Inspire Others.
To celebrate the first anniversary of our website launch, we had hoped to finally all meet up in person. Unfortunately the cold weather and covid had other ideas, so we hosted a festive zoom party instead! Jude Berraondo created a wonderful video to show just how far we’ve all come in a year both personally, […]
In Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), we use the term ‘values’ to refer to activities that give our lives meaning. If we think of valuing as a ‘doing word’ (valuing), then we recognise that each day we are taking small steps towards or away from what is important to us. Values are not goals, in that […]
Inspire Others has evolved through co-design. Our blog post here talks a little about that process. We wanted to expand on the 2nd step of our co-design process – the part that helps our website and storytelling grow the amazing way it has: The second level was the telling of client stories to create the […]
We are so happy to showcase Jan’s story in our Inspiring Stories section of our website. For those who have not met the mother and daughter dream team, we would like to introduce you to Jan and her daughter Carly. Jan had a stroke in 2005 at the age of 46. As a result, she […]
Chris has been cooking as part of his rehabilitation after brain injury. He values being able to prepare and enjoy good food with the people that matter to him. As an activity of daily living that matters to Chris, cooking is used as a therapeutic tool to aid his brain injury recovery. Chris’s goals include […]
The first Dysautonomia Awareness Month was launched in October 2012 by Dysautonomia International. What is Dysautonomia? Dysautonomia is an umbrella term used to describe several different medical conditions that cause a malfunction of the Autonomic Nervous System. The Autonomic Nervous System controls the “automatic” functions of the body that we do not consciously think about, such as […]
by Harriet When I had my traumatic brain injury (TBI) I really struggled with shopping. It was such an every day thing that I always managed without thinking about it before my injury so it took me a while to work out how best to tackle it. My memory was so bad that I couldn’t […]
We worked with clients who are on their neurological recovery journey to co-design a website. Inspire Others was designed by clients that are on their neurological recovery journey, and the clinicians that work alongside them. What is Co-design? Co-design describes the process of designers and end-users (in our project, our designers are the therapists and […]
